FISH RESPORT 11/17/21

The fishing season has come to a close and we want to thank all of you for coming and seeing us, and throwing your line in the lake and creek.  We already have great plans to make next year a great experience for you.

The last week had wonderful fall weather for those who ventured out to the lake. Many of the end-of-the-season anglers scored some big ones.

Night crawlers, garlic power bait and the Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant were still the favorites.

Big catches this week include:

  • Jaime and Luis from La Verne had a fine day catching 3 beauties weighing 4 ¼ lbs., 3 ½ lbs., and 3 ¼ lbs. using night crawlers on South Shore.
  • Carl and Jeremy pulled in 2 whoppers weighing 5 ¾ lbs., and 4 ¾ lbs. on South Shore using salmon power bait and night crawlers.
  • Josh from Loma Linda and his two little helpers used a Thomas Buoyant to snag a 5 ¼ lbs. rainbow on South Shore.
  • Carl from Montana was using a night crawler by the handicap assessable pier and caught a 5 lbs. monster.
  • Charles from Fullerton used salmon peach power bait on North Shore and caught a 3 ¾ lbs. beauty.

Remember, just because our lake is closed, there are many options nearby for winter fishing.  So, come on up and see us.  Our cabins, store, and restaurant are open year-round.

Until next April 30, 2022

Fish On,

In honor of Veterans Day, we want to thank all of you who have served our country. We appreciate all that you have done and continue to do.  You are the best of the best!

Fish are definitely coming up from the deeper water. South Shore around the picnic area has been a hot spot, as well as, North Shore around the old Hangman’s Tree.

FISH REPORT NOV. 2, 2021

The big news this week is that we stocked the lake with many big ones weighing  5 to 8 pounds.  The Ambush at the Lake Derby and Morrison’s Bonus Weekend with the special tagged fish brought in many anglers.  Big trout were caught, but unfortunately, none of the tagged fish were snagged.

The late season anglers are pulling in some nice ones all around the lake from the shoreline and from boats. A variety of baits and lures have been working, including Gulp Pinched Crawlers, inflated night crawlers, the Rainbow Trout Rapala, green garlic power bait, and our old favorite, the Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant.

The big catch of the week was caught by Fred from Forest Hill, CA.  He pulled in a whopper weighing 8 lbs. and 26 inches.  He was on a boat off shore of the picnic area on South Shore using a pinched crawler.  WOW!!

  • Jeff from Santee brought in a rainbow weighing 2 ½ lbs. with a pinched crawler at the Outlet.
  • Robert from Orange County used a night crawler at the Inlet and hooked a 3 pounder.
  • Don from Altadena reeled in a huge rainbow weighing 5 ¼ lbs. using a Rainbow Trout Rapala right by the jetty.
  • Tommy from Mammoth Lakes caught two 3 pound beauties while fly fishing on the lake. He released these rainbows back into the water.
  • The Henderson Family from West Lake Village had some wonderful catches. Erica snagged a 1 ½ lbs. rainbow on green garlic power bait. Cody used the green garlic power bait to catch a one pounder. They both brought in a few more rainbows caught at the Inlet.  That’s what we call, having a great time at Convict.
  • Josh sent in a pic on Instagram of his 3 ¼ lbs. beauty.

With the end of trout season rapidly approaching, now is the time to come on up to Convict and catch those whoppers before it is too late. The campground closed on October 31st, but our cabins are open and are warm and cozy on the colder mornings and nights.  The marina is open daily for those wanting to go out on one of our pontoon boats

The Ambush at the Lake Derby goes until Nov. 15th .  You still have time to get into the drawing worth $6000 in prizes by catching just one 14 inch or larger trout.  We have a few Ambush at the Lake t-shirts in the store. We only have size small, medium and large. These can be ordered online or by calling the store.

The fish are biting and we have all that you need to make a great last of the season trip.

FISH REPORT 10/22/202

Our apologies for the late posting. We’ve been busy!

We got snow on Monday the 18th and the conditions for the anglers were pretty wild, however, the fish didn’t seem to mind and they were biting. The colder temperatures are bringing the trout up from the deeper waters.

Many 3 and 4 pound rainbows were being reeled in all week.  Garlic power bait in green, rainbow, and yellow colors were big hits.  Inflated night crawlers and pink power worms did well with some anglers.  Trolling at higher depths using a Thomas Buoyant brought in some big rainbows.

Big catches this week include:

  • Robert from Buena Park caught two beauties weighing 2 ½ lbs. and 3 ½ lbs. using night crawlers on North Shore.
  • Jimmy from Camarillo reeled in a whopper weighing 4 ¾ lbs. at the Inlet.
  • Jay from Santa Clarita used a Thomas Buoyant along North Shore and caught a 3 ½ lbs. rainbow.
  • Chad from Lone Pine used a mini jig on North Shore to catch a 3 pounder.
  • Steve, Les, and Ron from Mira Loma had a productive day on the lake reeling in a 3 ½ lbs., 2 ½ lbs., and a 3 ¾ lbs. lunkers on South Shore and North Shore.
  • Nick and Nina from Temecula used green garlic power bait and hooked a 4 ½ lbs. , 21 inch rainbow on South Shore.
  • A family from San Dimas had a fine vacation at the lake catching some big ol’ trout. Garret caught a 4 ½ lbs., Kyle caught a 4 ½ lbs., Mark got a 3 ¾ lbs. and Jake brought in the biggest at 5.1 lbs. They all used a pink power worms in the jetty area.
  • Sherri and Robert from Temecula also had a fine time out on the lake. Sherri caught a 4 ½ lbs. rainbow using orange power bait on North Shore.  Robert caught a 4 ¾ lbs., 21 inch beauty using green garlic power bait on North Shore.
  • Josh sent us a picture of his great 3 lbs. catch out on the lake using a slammer.
  • Lyn and Lonnie from Graeagle, CA brought in two big rainbows each weighing 3 ¼ lbs. by trolling a Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant.

A big storm made its way through over the weekend and into Monday the 25th. We are expecting more cooler temperatures this week.  The marina will remain open until the end of the season on Nov. 15th when the weather conditions permit safe boating.

The campground will close on October 31st.  The resort – the cabins, store and restaurant are open all year.

We have plenty of warm jackets, sweatshirts, gloves, beanies, and socks in the store.  We also have a fine selection of wine and beers.  Come on in the store and get warmed up!

FISH REPORT 10/15/2021

It has been quite the weather week here at Convict.  We started the week with wind and snow and crashing waves out on the lake. The weather has settled down and the fishing has been great.

The cooler temperatures have moved the fish into shallower water and closer to shore.  The late season trout fishing is going strong.  We have had many 3-to-5-pound fish being caught on inflated night crawlers, garlic power bait in green, yellow and rainbow colors, and also pinched crawlers.  Pink and white Mice Tails, Red and Gold Thomas Buoyants, and the Bloody Ripper Tasmanian Devil have brought in some big catches.

Amazing catches this week include:

  • JJ had a great time on the lake with two big catches. He got a 3 ¼ lbs. & a 3 ¾ lbs. trout using garlic power bait on South Shore.
  • Bobby from Temecula brought in a 4 lbs. beauty on a night crawler on South Shore.
  • Alex from Orange reeled in a 3 ¾ lbs. rainbow on a night crawler on South Shore.
  • David from Arkansas can go home and tell his friends about the 3 ¾ lbs. trout he caught on salmon peach power bait on South Shore.
  • Peggy from Albuquerque, New Mexico caught a 19 ½ inch, 3 ½ lbs. lunker on green garlic power bait on South Shore.
  • Shane from Palmdale also caught a 3 ½ lbs. rainbow on garlic power bait on South Shore.
  • Jim from Santa Maria had the big catch for the week with a beefy 6 ¼ lbs. using Gulp Pinched Crawlers at the Outlet.
  • Khan from Anaheim used garlic power bait and caught a 3 ½ lbs. trout on South Shore.
  • Robert from San Diego reeled in a 4 lbs. rainbow using a white body – pink head Mice Tail on North Shore.
  • Mike from Camarillo used white power bait on South Shore to catch a 3 ¾ lbs. beauty.
  • An angler, “Raider Fan” sent us a picture of his 5 lbs. catch that he brought in using 2 lbs. test. That was quite the catch!

The weather this coming week should be ideal for the prime fall fishing season.  Daytime temps will range from the low 60’s with sunny to mostly sunny skies.  Nighttime lows will be in the 20’s.  Better bring your warm PJ’s!

We hope you will come on up and the see the fall colors before they are gone.  The marina is open daily for your boating enjoyment.

FISH REPORT OCTOBER 7, 2021

Fall has arrived!  The aspen trees are turning their beautiful gold colors and more importantly, the trout are coming up from the deeper water.

Fishing has been very productive this week.  The trophy size rainbows that we planted a week ago are hungry and looking for a tasty treat.  The bite has been good all around the lake from both the shore and out on a boat.

As we say almost every week, green garlic, rainbow, and yellow power bait have been the biggest hits.  Inflated night crawlers and pinched crawlers have also been successful.

Trolling a “Bloody Ripper” Tasmanian Devil and the Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant at approximately 25 feet have brought in a few beauties.

Some notable catches include:

  • Craig and Margarita from Phelan brought in a 2 ¾ lbs. rainbow on green power bait.
  • George from Mira Loma used cheese power bait to reel in a 4 ¼ lbs. lunker.
  • Brothers Ethan and Aiden caught a 4 ¼ lbs. whopper. Picture sent in by Rick’s Sports Center.
  • Noah and Nikolas used power bait on South Shore and hooked a 2 ¾ lbs. rainbow.
  • Jason and Greg were on South Shore and caught 3 lbs. and 3 ½ lbs. beauties on green and orange mice tails.
  • David from Long Beach used a night crawler by the handicap accessible dock and was trolling a Thomas Buoyant on South Shore to catch 3 ½ lbs. and 2 ¾ lbs. lunkers.

Last week we mentioned our friend Steve who caught a little beauty.  We aren’t sure what happened, but his picture did not get on the report.  So, we are trying again this week.  So sorry Steve!

The weather has definitely turned chilly.  Day time temps are predicted to range from 62 degrees to 38 degrees.  The low temps will range in the mid to low 20’s.  There are a couple of days with a slight chance of snow showers.

We have plenty of warm jackets, sweatshirts, beanies, gloves, and hand and toe warmers in the store. You can also grab a cup of hot coffee or cocoa to help warm you up.

Come on and see us – it is a great time of the year to experience Convict Lake.
